Heavy sewing is a speciality most classic garment workshops do not offer. It calls for dedicated machinery – needles from 140 to 230, multi-ply feed, teflon feet, high-tenacity polyester threads – and seamstresses used to handling heavy, stiff material. At PRO Clo we sew Cordura 500D and 1000D, PVC-coated fabrics, cotton-polyester canvas, laminated fleece and other technical materials weighing 400 to 900 g/m².
Which technical materials we work with
Most often we work with Cordura for rucksacks, bags and protectors, with PVC tarpaulin fabrics for covers, cases and vehicle tarpaulins, with canvas for tents and agricultural covers, and with aramid and flame-retardant materials for protective and uniform clothing. The choice of thread, needles and seam parameters we agree with the client’s technologist or propose ourselves after analysing how the product will be used.

Why heavy sewing needs an experienced plant
Technical fabrics are capricious: PVC melts if the needle is wrong, Cordura blunts blades, canvas shrinks after sewing. Without experience such production generates a high share of waste and complaints. At PRO Clo we have been sewing heavy materials for generations, and inspection between operations catches errors before the goods leave the line. Material is prepared on the Bullmer CNC cutter, which handles many plies of technical fabric with high precision.

What fabric weights do you handle?
As standard we work with fabrics from 200 to 900 g/m². Our heavy sewing machines cope with Cordura 1000D, PVC tarpaulin fabrics at 650 to 900 g/m² and cotton-polyester canvas. For heavier materials we select needles from 140 to 230 and reinforced polyester threads.
Do you sew flame-retardant fabrics?
Yes. We work with FR fabrics meeting EN ISO 11612 and use threads and components matched to those requirements. The material certificate is handed over together with the batch.
How does Cordura 500D differ from 1000D in production?
1000D is heavier, stiffer and more abrasion resistant – used in tactical rucksacks and military equipment. 500D is lighter and drapes more easily – it suits lifestyle rucksacks, bags and outdoor clothing. The choice depends on the balance between weight and durability.
