Prototyping is the stage between design and series production. Here we test construction, dimensioning, freedom of movement, the choice of material and the finishes. At PRO Clo the prototype is made on the same line that handles series production – so we can be sure that what works on the sample can be repeated in the series.
Why make a prototype
- to verify the design can actually be sewn,
- to check dimensions and wearing comfort,
- to test the durability of the chosen material,
- to assess production cost with the target technology,
- to have a reference sample for contract production.
What the prototype package contains
Usually one to three physical samples in different sizes or colours, the updated pattern, a description of corrections against the original design, and a technological report with recommendations before production. Once the prototype is approved we prepare the cutting marker and start the series.
Multiple iterations
Sometimes the first prototype generates ideas for construction changes. We quote each iteration separately, but when you place the production with us the cost of the prototype is often credited against the first series – worth asking about at the design stage.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a prototype take?
As standard one to three weeks from approval of the pattern to a finished sample. The time depends on the complexity of the model and on material availability.
Can I order a prototype in several sizes?
Yes. Most often we make the prototype in one base size, M or L, but if the model needs validation in other sizes we add one or two extra pieces.
What do I receive in the prototype package?
The physical sample, the updated pattern, a description of corrections against the original design and a technological report with recommendations before series production.
